The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers a stunning 32-mile round-trip journey through the mountains of western Maryland, departing from the beautifully restored Western Maryland Railway Station in Cumberland. The train climbs the Allegheny Front — one of the most dramatic escarpments in the eastern United States — through a winding mountain pass, offering passengers sweeping views of the Allegheny Mountains and the historic Narrows gorge. The railroad uses both steam and diesel locomotives and passes through Frostburg, where passengers enjoy a layover to explore the historic downtown. The route follows portions of the original Western Maryland Railway alignment and offers some of the finest mountain railroad scenery in the mid-Atlantic region.
