The Electric City Trolley Museum commemorates the city’s legacy as the birthplace of the first successfully operational electric-powered streetcar system in the U.S. Housed in a restored 19th-century mill building, the museum features a collection of vintage trolleys from the early 1900s, interactive electricity displays, and a 50-seat theatre. The museum’s premier attraction is its scenic excursion. Passengers board a 1920s or 1930s-era trolley for a 5.5-mile round trip along the historic “Laurel Line.” The route is famous for passing through the Crown Avenue Tunnel, which at 4,747 feet is one of the longest interurban tunnels ever built, before reaching PNC Field on Montage Mountain. Beyond regular runs, the museum hosts popular specialty excursions, including Sunday Baseball Specials to SWB RailRiders games, “Character Rides” for children, and the festive “Santa on the Trolley” trips during the holiday season.
