Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad & Museum

The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad in Iowa operates over a historic Des Moines River valley line, offering excursions across one of the most impressive railroad bridges in the Midwest — the Kate Shelley High Bridge, a majestic steel trestle spanning the Des Moines River valley at a height of 156 feet. The railroad uses a rare Chinese steam locomotive, one of the few operating in North America, as well as vintage diesel equipment. Passengers enjoy views of the rolling Iowa farmland, the wooded river valley, and the surrounding bluffs. The railroad also operates electric interurban cars and hosts special events including dinner trains, fall foliage excursions, and holiday trains throughout the year.
