Zanesville & Western Scenic Railroad

Operated entirely by passionate volunteers, the Zanesville and Western Scenic Railroad offers a nostalgic journey through the beautiful rolling landscapes, forested hills, and countryside of Southeast Ohio. Departing from the Mt. Perry depot, this family-friendly excursion takes passengers on a relaxed, 40-minute round-trip ride along the historic Glass Rock Spur. Historically nicknamed the “Zigzag & Wobbly,” this rail line dates back over a century to when it transported local coal and silica sand used in the region’s glass, pottery, and brick industries. Today, passengers can choose between comfortable indoor coach seating or catching the breeze in an open-air car. In addition to their standard weekend runs from late summer through autumn, the railroad hosts a vibrant lineup of themed excursions—including interactive Train Robbery Shows, the family-favorite Pumpkin Train, festive Santa Train Events in December, and an elegant “Sip & Rail” Wine Tasting journey for adults.
