The Yakima Valley Trolleys, located at the Yakima Electric Railway Museum, stand as a rare and remarkable survivor: the last authentic, all-original interurban electric railroad in the United States. Located in Yakima, Washington, this National Register of Historic Places site operates on tracks first laid in 1907. Unlike many heritage lines that use repurposed equipment, the Yakima Valley Trolleys utilize their original 1910 stone carbarn and 1911 powerhouse to maintain and power a fleet of vintage streetcars, including two 1920s-era Brill-designed cars from Oporto, Portugal. The signature excursion follows the Pine Street Line, offering a nostalgic journey through the city’s industrial and residential history. While the scenic “Selah Line” through the Naches River gap is currently facing structural bridge challenges, the museum remains a vibrant “living history” hub where volunteers continue to demonstrate 20th-century electric transit.
