Whippany Railway Museum

The Whippany Railway Museum, located in the heart of Morris County, New Jersey, is a dedicated non-profit volunteer organization that has been preserving the state’s rich rail heritage since 1965. Housed in a restored 1904 freight house, the museum features a vast collection of railroad artifacts, vintage steam locomotives like the Southern Railway No. 385, and intricate model train layouts. Beyond its static exhibits, the museum is best known for its seasonal Excursion Trains, which take passengers on a nostalgic 45-minute journey along the historic “Whippanong Trail.” These rides offer a rare opportunity to travel in meticulously restored equipment, including vintage cabooses where you can experience the “clickety-clack” of the rails, or the elegant Jersey Coast Club Car, which provides a glimpse into the luxurious “subscription car” travel of the early 20th century.
