The West Chester Railroad offers enjoyable scenic excursions through the historic Chester County countryside of southeastern Pennsylvania, operating vintage diesel and steam locomotives on a 9-mile round-trip journey along the former West Chester Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Departing from the beautifully restored historic West Chester station, the railroad winds through the lush Pennsylvania countryside past horse farms, historic estates, and wooded creek valleys typical of Chester County’s extraordinarily beautiful rural landscape. West Chester itself is one of the most elegant and historically well-preserved county seat towns in the mid-Atlantic region, with a lively downtown of galleries, restaurants, and 19th-century commercial architecture that provides an ideal complement to a railroad excursion. The railroad offers regular weekend excursions throughout the year and an exceptionally popular holiday programming calendar, including the Polar Express holiday train, Trick or Treat trains, and Easter excursions. A strong program of themed event trains throughout the season — including wine and cheese excursions, murder mystery trains, and family day trips — makes the West Chester Railroad one of the most active heritage railroads in the Philadelphia suburbs.
