Walkersville Southern Railroad

The Walkersville Southern Railroad is a small but deeply rooted Maryland heritage line that preserves the spirit of local railroading through its restored track, vintage equipment, and community‑focused excursions. Running over a surviving segment of the old Pennsylvania Railroad Frederick Branch, the railroad keeps alive a piece of regional history that would otherwise have vanished after freight service ended in the 1980s. Today, it offers a variety of excursions—from scenic rides through farmland and the Monocacy River valley to themed trips like dinner trains, holiday events, and caboose rides—each designed to showcase the rural beauty of Frederick County while celebrating classic American railroading.
