Tucked among the rolling farmland of Baldwin County, Alabama, the Wales West Light Railway is a 2-foot narrow gauge railway built by owners Ann and Ken Zadnichek to simulate the beloved preserved railways of Wales. The centerpiece is Dame Ann, an 11,700-pound 0-4-2ST steam locomotive built in England and the first Port Class Hunslet built in 83 years, which hauls passengers on a roughly one-mile journey through tunnels, past waterfalls, and around the beautifully landscaped grounds of the Wales West RV Resort. Rides last approximately 15 to 20 minutes, operating year-round with trains departing at frequent intervals throughout the day. The railway hosts over 30,000 visitors annually and is especially renowned for its holiday Arctic Express, when the grounds transform into a dazzling Christmas wonderland each November and December.
