The Stourbridge Line in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, operates scenic excursion trains through the upper Delaware River valley and the forests of Wayne County, following trackage with deep historical significance — it was at Honesdale in 1829 that the locomotive Stourbridge Lion made the first steam-powered run of a railroad locomotive in the Americas. Today the Wayne County Historical Society operates diesel-powered passenger excursions over the former Erie Railroad’s Delaware & Hudson Canal Company corridor, offering riders beautiful views of river valleys, dense woodlands, and small Pennsylvania towns. The railroad hosts a variety of seasonal events throughout the year, celebrating both the dramatic natural scenery of the Pocono foothills and the milestone role Honesdale played in the birth of American railroading.
