Texas Transportation Museum

The Texas Transportation Museum in San Antonio offers a unique, hands-on encounter with rail history through its own full-sized railroad, the Longhorn & Western (L&W). Unlike many museums where exhibits are strictly “look-but-don’t-touch,” the TTM includes unlimited train rides with the price of admission, allowing visitors to ride as often as they like on Saturdays and Sundays. These 10- to 15-minute excursions typically run on a mile-long loop around the museum’s 40-acre grounds, often pulled by vintage diesel-electric locomotives. For a truly immersive experience, guests can even purchase a “Cab Ride” ticket to sit up front with the engineer. The museum also hosts popular seasonal events like “Santa’s Railroad Wonderland” and the “Easter Eggspress,” where the trains are decorated and integrated into festive, family-oriented celebrations.
