Sonoma TrainTown Railroad has been a beloved Wine Country landmark since 1968, when founder Stanley Frank opened his hand-built 15-inch gauge quarter-scale railroad on 10 beautifully landscaped acres just one mile south of the historic Sonoma Plaza. The 20-minute train trip winds through evergreen forests, over bridges, and through tunnels before making a stop at Lakeview — a charming miniature town with a petting zoo where passengers can feed the animals and explore scale-model buildings. The railroad features two steam locomotives, including a stunning replica New York Central Hudson, as well as an electric engine, all running on nearly 4 miles of track. In addition to the train, TrainTown offers six transportation-themed amusement rides and a gift shop; park admission and parking are free. TrainTown operates Saturdays and Sundays year-round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with daily service added from late June through mid-August.
