The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum in Industry, New York, is dedicated to preserving the railroad heritage of the greater Rochester region and the Genesee Valley — one of the most historically important agricultural and industrial corridors in 19th-century America. Located at the New York Museum of Transportation campus in the rolling countryside of Monroe County, the museum maintains an impressive collection of historic diesel and electric railroad equipment from the railroads that shaped western New York, including the Rochester, Syracuse and Eastern interurban, the Rochester and Eastern, and the many steam-era short lines of the Genesee Valley. Visitors can explore the museum’s outdoor display areas, car barns, and restoration facilities while learning about the region’s rich transportation history. Seasonal excursion trains operate over the museum’s demonstration track, and the New York Museum of Transportation on the same campus offers additional perspectives on the region’s road and rail transportation heritage. The museum is particularly significant for its preservation of interurban electric railway equipment from the once-extensive Rochester-area electric transit network, including some of the finest surviving examples of New York interurban technology. Special events include trolley rides, open houses, and railroad history programs for enthusiasts and families.
