The Poway-Midland Railroad is a volunteer-run heritage line that brings the “turn-of-the-century” rail experience to life. This railroad is unique for its use of 3-foot-6-inch “narrow gauge” track, a rare “bastard gauge” once common in industrial operations. The “jewel in the crown” of its collection is Baldwin #3, a 1907 steam locomotive originally built for a cement company and later modified to resemble a 1870s-era “Old West” engine. Beyond steam, the railroad offers a diverse range of heritage excursions, including rides on a 1906 San Francisco Cable Car—the only operational one of its kind carrying passengers outside of the Bay Area—and a 1950 Fairmont Speeder. As a “living museum,” the railroad maintains a rotation of equipment nearly every weekend, ensuring that visitors can experience different eras of transit history while circling the picturesque park grounds.
