Elgin County’s longest-running tourist attraction, the Port Stanley Terminal Rail has been delighting visitors for over 40 years with scenic diesel-powered train rides through the beautiful Kettle Creek Valley of southwestern Ontario. The PSTR operates on a restored seven-kilometre section of the historic London and Port Stanley Railway, a line whose origins date back to 1856 when the first passenger train arrived in Port Stanley on Lake Erie. Today, historic diesel electric locomotives from the 1940s and 1950s pull converted caboose coaches at a leisurely pace between the charming lakeside village of Port Stanley and the city of St. Thomas, passing through pastoral countryside and over historic bridges. In addition to regular seasonal excursions on weekends (and daily during July and August), the PSTR hosts a wonderful variety of themed events throughout the year, including Murder Mystery Trains, Easter Bunny specials, Pumpkin Patch rides, Santa Treats trains, Music on the Rails evenings, and more. Entirely volunteer-run and steeped in more than a century of railway tradition, Port Stanley Terminal Rail is a cherished community institution and a wonderful way to experience the rich railway heritage of southwestern Ontario.
