The Northern Pacific Railway Museum in Toppenish is a meticulously preserved time capsule of the “Main Street of the Northwest.” Housed in a grand 1911 brick depot, the museum offers a unique “Living History” experience that goes beyond static displays. For the 2026 season, the museum has reached a historic milestone: the Northern Pacific Steam Locomotive #1364, a 1902 Baldwin “Ten-Wheeler,” has returned to life after a 70-year restoration. While the museum specializes in short “yard rides” and caboose hops that allow visitors to feel the power of vintage iron, its excursion calendar is anchored by beloved community traditions. The “Toy Train Christmas” is a regional highlight, where families board a real train for a short journey to meet Santa, accompanied by a massive operating model train exhibit that fills the freight room.
