The New Hope Railroad — formerly known as the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad — is a beloved heritage excursion railroad serving one of the most picturesque and historically rich tourist communities in Pennsylvania, the charming Delaware River town of New Hope, Bucks County. The railroad operates vintage steam and diesel locomotives along a scenic 9-mile route through the rolling Bucks County countryside to Lahaska, home of the famous Peddler’s Village shopping and dining complex, offering round-trip excursions with a layover for shopping and exploring. The 1891 New Hope station serves as the atmospheric departure point for all excursions. Steam-powered trains operate on select weekends throughout the season, while diesel-powered excursions run more regularly. Special event trains are a cornerstone of the railroad’s calendar, including a massively popular Polar Express holiday train, murder mystery dinner trains, fall foliage excursions, and family-friendly themed rides. The New Hope area is also home to numerous antique shops, galleries, restaurants, and the Delaware Canal towpath, making the railroad an ideal component of a full-day excursion to one of Pennsylvania’s most visited historic communities. The railroad is a wonderful example of a heritage operation thriving in a tourism-rich environment.
