The Nevada Southern Railway is the operational excursion arm of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City, located just a short drive from the Las Vegas Strip. Situated on the historic Boulder Branch Line, the museum preserves the very tracks laid by the Union Pacific in 1931 to transport the massive amounts of concrete and equipment required to build the Hoover Dam. Today, visitors can experience this “Mainline to History” by boarding refurbished 1911 Harriman coaches or open-air cars for a 7-mile, 45-minute round trip through the Mojave Desert. Because the railway is a state-owned museum site, the excursions are run primarily by dedicated volunteers who maintain an impressive collection of vintage diesel and steam locomotives, including the iconic Union Pacific GP30 No. 844, ensuring that the engineering legacy of the Southwest remains in motion.
