The Minnesota Transportation Museum in St. Paul, Minnesota, preserves and operates a remarkable collection of historic transportation equipment, including the restored Como-Harriet Streetcar Line in Minneapolis — the only surviving segment of the Twin Cities’ once-extensive electric streetcar network — and the Osceola & St. Croix Valley Railway in Wisconsin. The Como-Harriet Streetcar Line operates beautifully restored vintage streetcars on a 1.75-mile segment of the original Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company route between the Lake Harriet Bandshell and Linden Hills, one of the most charming and historically evocative urban heritage railroad experiences in the Upper Midwest. The restored 1908 and 1946 streetcars operate on weekend afternoons from May through October, carrying passengers past the lakeside gardens, historic homes, and tree-lined boulevards of this lovely Minneapolis neighborhood. The museum depot at Lake Harriet includes exhibits on Twin Cities streetcar history and the collection of vintage vehicles undergoing restoration. The museum also maintains the Minnehaha Depot, the oldest surviving railroad depot in Minnesota, a beautifully preserved 1875 Milwaukee Road structure that serves as a visitor center and museum. The MTM is a nonprofit organization sustained by dedicated volunteers and members committed to preserving the transportation heritage of the Upper Midwest.
