The Kamloops Heritage Railway Society in Kamloops, British Columbia, is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic railway equipment with a special focus on steam locomotives. The society’s pride is ex-CN 2-8-0 Consolidation steam locomotive No. 2141 ‘Spirit of Kamloops’, built in 1912 and painstakingly restored between 1994 and 2002, which has carried over 45,000 passengers and is one of the longest regularly scheduled steam excursion trains in Canada when operational. The society also owns and cares for several other significant pieces of heritage railway equipment. Located in downtown Kamloops near the waterfront, the railway and its equipment represent a vital link to the region’s railway heritage — Kamloops was a key junction point on the Canadian Pacific Railway’s transcontinental mainline. The society continues important preservation and restoration work to maintain and display these historic vehicles for the public. While some equipment is currently on static display, the society remains committed to its mission of preserving railway heritage in the Thompson-Okanagan region of British Columbia for future generations.
