The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a historic narrow-gauge railway that winds through the stunning Clear Creek Canyon in the Colorado Rockies, offering one of the most scenic and historically significant rail experiences in the American West. Originally constructed in 1884 to connect the silver mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume, the railroad is best known for its remarkable High Bridge, a 300-foot-long curved iron trestle that rises 95 feet above Clear Creek and was considered one of the engineering wonders of its era. The railroad fell out of operation in 1939 but was painstakingly rebuilt during the 1980s as a heritage attraction and is now operated as part of Colorado’s state historic parks system. Vintage steam and diesel locomotives haul open excursion cars along a 4.5-mile stretch of track through breathtaking mountain scenery, with views of historic mining infrastructure, towering rock walls, and sparkling mountain streams. Optional add-on tours take visitors underground into the Lebanon Silver Mine for an authentic look at 19th-century hard rock mining techniques. The railroad operates seasonally from late spring through fall.
