Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad (DGVR) is a heritage railroad system that preserves and operates several historic lines across the mountains of eastern West Virginia, showcasing early logging, branch‑line, and mountain railroading. Based in the small town of Durbin, DGVR maintains vintage equipment—including the rare Climax steam locomotive used on the Durbin Rocket excursion—and operates trains along original Chesapeake & Ohio and Western Maryland trackage. Its excursions highlight the region’s railroad past: the Durbin Rocket offers a slow, intimate ride along the upper Greenbrier River; the Greenbrier Express connects Cass and Durbin on newly restored C&O logging lines; and additional seasonal or specialty trips run over the broader West Virginia Central network. As the managing entity behind Mountain Rail West Virginia, DGVR blends preservation with active operation, keeping historic locomotives, rural branch lines, and Appalachian railroad culture alive for modern visitors.
