The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is Ohio’s longest excursion railroad, carrying passengers through the scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park — the only national park in the country with an active heritage railroad running through its core. The railroad has been operating since 1975 and today offers a variety of year-round excursions along 26 miles of historic trackage originally built in the 1880s. The route follows the picturesque Cuyahoga River past waterfalls, wetlands, meadows, and dense woodland, providing excellent opportunities to spot great blue herons, bald eagles, white-tailed deer, and other wildlife. Multiple boarding stations allow riders to hop on and off throughout the day, exploring the park’s extensive trail network and attractions between trains. Themed excursions include the popular Polar Express holiday train, fall foliage trips, wine and craft beer tastings, murder mystery dinners, and family-friendly seasonal events. The railroad also connects passengers to the Towpath Trail, which runs the full length of the park along the historic Ohio & Erie Canal corridor. Vintage diesel locomotives and historic passenger coaches provide an authentic excursion railroad atmosphere year-round.
