The Conway Scenic Railroad operates vintage steam and diesel-powered trains through the stunning White Mountains of New Hampshire, offering some of the most dramatic mountain railroad scenery in the northeastern United States. Based in the beautifully restored 1874 North Conway station — a Victorian-era architectural gem — the railroad offers two distinct excursion routes. The Valley Train provides a relaxed 55-minute or 90-minute round-trip through the pastoral Saco River valley, ideal for families and casual visitors. The spectacular Notch Train offers a five-hour round-trip journey through Crawford Notch State Park, climbing to one of the most dramatic mountain passes in New England, crossing the historic Frankenstein Trestle — a 500-foot curved steel viaduct rising 70 feet above Frankenstein Gorge — and threading through the narrow confines of Crawford Notch. Dome observation cars provide 360-degree views of the surrounding Presidential Range peaks. Dining car service and first-class parlor car options are available. The railroad’s diverse fleet includes historic steam locomotives, vintage diesel power, and meticulously restored passenger equipment collected from railroads across the country.
