The Chehalis-Centralia Railroad & Museum operates vintage steam and diesel-powered excursion trains through the scenic Chehalis River Valley of southwestern Washington State, offering a relaxed and family-friendly journey through the pastoral lowland landscape between the historic railroad towns of Chehalis and Centralia. The museum maintains an impressive collection of Pacific Northwest railroad equipment, including restored steam locomotives, passenger cars, and freight equipment representative of the railroads that shaped the development of Lewis County and the Puget Sound region. Round-trip excursions run seasonally from the Chehalis depot through the Chehalis River bottomlands, with wildlife viewing opportunities including bald eagles, great blue herons, and waterfowl along the river corridor. The museum’s historic depot serves as the departure point and visitor center, housing exhibits on the history of railroading in western Washington. Special event trains include holiday excursions, themed family events, and fall foliage trips. The railroad is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers from the Lewis County railroad historical society, who maintain the equipment and infrastructure while providing an educational and entertaining experience for families and railroad enthusiasts from across the Pacific Northwest.
