The Canyon Spirit offers a sophisticated evolution of the historic rail routes that once tamed the Continental Divide. The journey begins its westbound trek at the iconic Denver Union Station, a restored Beaux-Arts masterpiece that serves as the line’s grand primary terminal. From the “Mile High City,” the train ascends the Front Range via the engineering marvel of the Big 10 Curve and traverses the Moffat Tunnel to cross the spine of the Rockies. The line follows the path of the Colorado River through the sheer walls of Byers Canyon and Gore Canyon, making its first major overnight stop in the historic resort town of Glenwood Springs. Continuing toward the Utah border, the train winds through the 15-mile stretch of De Beque Canyon and the vibrant sandstone cliffs of Ruby Canyon before reaching the desert hub of Moab. For those on the extended three-day journey, the rails continue through the rugged Price Canyon and across Soldier Summit to finish in Salt Lake City. This spectacular corridor serves as a rolling gateway to “The Mighty 5” national parks, with Rocky Mountain National Park flanking the Denver departure, and both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks situated just minutes from the Moab siding. (Although the Denver Union Station is the primary address, there is another terminus in Salt Lake City in the industrial area without an actual address.)
