The Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, operates scenic excursion trains through the beautiful limestone valleys of Centre County, following tracks that once served the iron and agricultural industries of central Pennsylvania. Departing from the historic Bellefonte station — a magnificent 1890s-era stone depot — the railroad runs diesel-powered excursions through Nittany Valley and the surrounding mountains on select weekends from spring through fall. Bellefonte itself is known as the “Town of Governors” for having produced more Pennsylvania governors than any other community, and the railroad offers a scenic backdrop for exploring this historic Victorian community. Special events include foliage runs and holiday trains that showcase the natural beauty of the Pennsylvania highlands.
