All aboard for adventure in the heart of the Alberta prairies! Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions, based in Stettler, Alberta, has been thrilling visitors since 1990 with one-of-a-kind train adventures through the beautiful parkland and prairie landscape of central Alberta. The journey runs from Stettler to either the Village of Big Valley — home to a restored 1912 railway station and fascinating roundhouse ruins — or to Alberta Prairie’s Country Hideaway at Warden Junction, featuring hayrides and nature walks. The trains are pulled by vintage steam or diesel locomotives, including the iconic 1920 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam engine No. 41 and the Montreal Locomotive Works 4-8-2 No. 6060. Every excursion includes a hearty buffet meal, lively on-board entertainment, and a very good chance your train will be dramatically robbed by the notorious Reynolds Raiders outlaw gang — with all recovered money donated to children’s charities! Themed excursions throughout the year include country dinners, adults-only evenings, Polar Express holiday rides, and more. With over 35 years of operation, this is Central Alberta’s premier tourist attraction and one of Canada’s most entertaining heritage railway experiences.
